Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft Azure Cloud is a platform that enables users to engage in agile cloud computing and is designed for creating and managing apps through Microsoft’s Data Centers. In simple terms, Azure (formerly Windows Azure) is Microsoft’s operating system for cloud computing.

Azure Cloud services include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and serverless. These cloud services can be used for things like storage, networking, compute, and analytics.

Azure SQL Database is a fully managed database service, which means that Microsoft operates SQL Server for you, and ensures its availability and performance. SQL Database also includes innovative features to enhance your business continuity, such as built-in high availability.

Virtual Machines billing consists of two parts: the cost of the virtual machine itself and the cost incurred by its disk (including managed disk and non-managed disk), so as long as your virtual machine and the disk are not deleted, disk storage cost always exists. Please refer to the Price Details of Disc Storage for billing details.

Microsoft offers various programs and benefits to help you get the most value from licenses on-premises and in the cloud. The Azure Hybrid Benefit lets you apply your Windows Server licenses covered with Software Assurance to use Azure Virtual Machines at the base compute rate.

A Virtual Machine scale set is an Azure compute resource that can be used to deploy and manage a set of
identical VMs. Scale sets are designed to support autoscaling because all VMs are configured identically, with no
VM pre-provisioning required. This makes it easy to build large-scale services targeting big data, and
containerized workloads.

An availability set is a logical grouping of VMs that allows Azure to understand how the application is built to
provide redundancy and availability. To provide high availability applications and meet the 99.95% Azure SLA, it
is recommended to have two or more VMs created within an availability set.

A network security group contains security rules that allow or deny inbound network traffic to, or outbound
network traffic from, several types of Azure resources. For each rule, source and destination, port and protocol
can be specified.

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is a cloud-based identity and access management service. This service allows
the users of an organization to access external resources, such as Azure Portal, Microsoft 365 portal, and other
SaaS applications. Azure Active Directory also allows them access internal resources like apps on the corporate
intranet network, along with any cloud apps developed for an organization.
